Welcome to NRI

Discovering Beyond the Known

Nanoelectronics Research Initiative (NRI) is a university-based research consortium looking toward nanoelectronics in the year 2020—further out than anyone else. Cooperatively funded by industry and federal and state governments, NRI's primary goal is to discover the next switch, a new mechanism for computing that goes beyond simply improving today's transistor.

News and Announcements

NRI INDEX Center Featured in Professor Geer Article. In his article Post-CMOS Nanoelectronics: Primetime for nanotechnology solutions Professor Robert Geer, VP of CSNE at SUNY-Albany, echoes NRI's mission of addressing the challenge of developing a new switch by providing the most provocative solutions. 2010 Aristotle Award Call for Nominations. A Call for Nominations for the 2010 Aristotle and Technical Excellence Awards has been issued. Nominations for professors and technologies from all three SRC entities, GRC, FCRP and NRI, are encouraged.

Calling All Device PIs! If you need to update your architecture metrics or if you haven't prepared an entry yet (newbies, this means you), please contact Kerry Bernstein. He will be happy to help you. Kerry can be reached by email or phone at (802) 659-4197. Please help us have the most accurate numbers possible for the NRI Technology Benchmarking and Architectures Assessments.

SWAN Professor's Work Included in Nanoscience and Technology: A Collection of Reviews from Nature Journals. Dr. Eric Vogel from UT-Dallas and the SWAN Center was among a select few to be published in this collection of reviews. His paper is titled "Technology and Metrology of New Electronic Materials and Devices." Read the full article in UTD News Center.

NRI Technology Benchmarking and Architectures Assessments is now on-line! Kerry Bernstein will present this work at all the Onsite Reviews this year as well as the NRI Annual Review. This website has all the background data on it. You must have a username and password to see it, please contact Heidi Deethardt at the MIND Center and she will set you up. More.

Upcoming Community Events

68th Device Research Conference
The Conference will be held June 21-23, 2010,
The University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN
The Device Research Conference focuses on future devices, very much in line with the NRI mission, and this year they are having a short course on "Spin Transport and Device Physics" which will feature several speakers from NRI.
Please check back in mid-March for registration and other information.
DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS: CLOSED

2010 IEEE Silicon Nanoelectronics Workshop
The Workshop will be held June 13-14, 2010,
Hilton Hawaiian Villiage, Honolulu, HI (prior to the VLSI Symposia)
The 2010 Silicon Nanoelectronics Workshop is a satellite workshop of the 2010 VLSI Symposia sponsored by the IEEE Electron Device Society. Original papers on nanometer-scale devices and technologies which utilize silicon or which are based on silicon substrates are welcome. If you have any questions, please drop Alan Seabaugh a line. Please follow these links for Call for Papers and registration forms (provided in the Advanced Program of the 2010 VLSI Technology Symposium).
DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS: March 26, 2010

2010 Symposia on VLSI Technology
The Symposia will be held June 15-17, 2010,
Hilton Hawaiian Villiage, Honolulu, HI
The VLSI Symposium is again making a specific solicitation for papers in both "More than Moore" and "Beyond CMOS" for the symposium, which could be a good forum for presenting some of the NRI work you are doing. If you have any questions, please drop Alan Seabaugh a line. Please follow this link for registration and other information.
DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS: CLOSED
